Volume 4, Issue 2

Welcome

Welcome to February! This is the time of year when many people in the northern hemisphere believe that Spring will never show the warmth of her face. And yet, every year, it does get warmer — eventually, and the grey shivers of winter dissolve, allowing us to bask in the heat of the sun.

As I completed writing my latest book, Discovering the Interlife — Your Journey Between Lifetimes, it occurred to me that the people before me lived in this frigid weather, without heat, without cars or transportation. They managed by admitting winter was coming and preparing for it. I don't know about you, but I pretend it's not going to happen every year, until WHOP! The outside temperature drops below zero, and my whining starts! I know it's the cycle of life. I know what goes up also goes down. But somehow my conscious mind chooses to forget that winter comes to Toronto. The feeling of cold is always a surprise. Knowing what I know about the conscious/subconscious mind, I guess that's my conscious mind making sure I don't remember so I stay put in this super city I call home.

Namaste,
Georgina

THE POWER OF YOUR INTERLIFE

One door closes, another opens...but what about the corridor in between?

The "in-between" that Dr. Georgina Cannon writes about in Discovering the Interlife is the awe-inspiring, wisdom-filled space between lifetimes: the place of your soul circle, your karma source, your council of elders, and the place where you chose your current body and purpose for this, your current lifetime.

Discovering the Interlife contains a script to help you meet your soul circle. It also gives you the means and understanding for psychic or soul cleansing and protection. The code of ethics and the resource guide, including accredited schools, make Discovering the Interlife the one metaphysical book you'll need as you continue on your soul journey.

Read what the critics say.

The Certainty of Purrfection
by Georgina Cannon
Charlie — the black-and-white Jellicle male cat in our house — teaches us something new each and every day. Like all good teachers, once he sees the lesson has been learned, he moves on to the next. It's a humbling business trying to keep up with the daily teachings of a not-so-dumb animal.

Over the winter, he's been demonstrating the frustration and loss of power of being on the outside looking in...or from his perspective, on the inside looking out. Life isn't the same looking through the window at the action. The feeling, the smells, the touch, and sensations of interaction are missing — and the distancing and lack of interaction take a toll on energy and commitment.

In the summer, when he's outside pretending to stalk birds and squirrels, he's full of life, chitter chatter, curiosity, and gymnastics. Looking through the window at life, he's become a watcher, uninvolved, remote, and a different being altogether. And as I watch him, I realize how easy it is to slip into that state.

Easy to not move beyond the window — easy to stay inside where it is seemingly safe and warm. Easy to not take chances that may not work out. Easy to blame the weather, the boss, the parents, and circumstances. Easy to not own who we are and how we take our space and place in the world.

I remember being told once that there are three types of people: those who lead the parade, those in the parade, and those who say "What parade?" As a watcher, there is no parade...nothing to lead, nothing to participate in.

Notice the difference of not living "easy." Notice the people who love and live every moment of life, using every moment to create something, to add to life. These are the people who make you feel better just by being around them. These are the people for whom love and life is inclusive; they have plenty of themselves to go around. They're not in the habit of holding back. They gulp down life with a sensuous joy of really living. Nelson Mandela, June Callwood, Tony Robbins, Stephen Lewis, and Jim Lord come to mind. They work, they inspire, they laugh (a lot), and they lead the parade. When June Callwood died last year, she left a huge legacy of benefits to humankind, but that's not what we remember her for. As it is for others like her, we remember her pure joy of life, the smile, and the inclusion of being in her energy whenever she was around.

What will your legacy be? Will you be like Charlie in the winter? Spending your days watching and wishing. Or will you stop being safe, move out beyond the windows of your world, and become of the world. Living each moment with joy of doing. Of being. Laughing and loving with the pure sensuous pleasure of being alive.

Thanks again, Charlie. Until next time... Georgina is the director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre School and Clinic and learns and shares wherever and whenever she can, including from Charlie.

INTRO TO GESTALT THERAPY

The Gestalt therapy system, with its holistic view and dialectic reasoning, allows us to experiment with, discriminate between, and assimilate ideas and other theories that enliven and enrich our ever-changing work with clients.

This workshop, given by Dr. Ronald Alexander Ph.D., will cover the essential theory and practice of Gestalt therapy as it is integrated with contemporary mindfulness-based somatic therapy and Ericksonian hypnotherapy. Participants will learn clinical skills in the following areas: mirroring, tracking and pacing, assessment of transference and projective identification, transmuting internalization, therapeutic empathy, de-framing, and re-framing as well as demonstrations for evoking trance using naturalistic hypnosis.

This course is open to hypnotherapists, body and somatic therapists, and other healthcare practitioners and to the laypeople who have an interest in both healing and training.

Date: April 10–12
Fee: $900.00
Location: Downtown Toronto

What Is This Thing Called Love?
by Georgina Cannon

"But I really love her" is the plaintiff cry I hear in the clinic when a relationship ends. "But I love him" is what I hear when the suggestion arises that a client might want to leave a relationship that ill treats her, physically, emotionally, or sexually.

It may be true that love still exists, but in reality, being in love isn't enough. What more does there need to be? Respect. Conversation. Understanding. Trust. Friendship. Support. Without at least three of these things, there is no relationship. And love isn't enough by itself to build a lasting, strong, viable relationship.

Knowing how to look for and participate in a loving relationship comes from what we learn as children. What we see and experience can become our truth and our pattern of relationships. How our parents treated each other and how they treated us can set the blueprint for our own relationships.

In the clinic, I find that I'm dealing with the love issue a great deal. People who can't find love, people who don't trust love, people who avoid love, and people who are addicted to love.

If you're a love addict, you move from relationship to relationship, each one following the same pattern — instant attraction; within a few days, you're giving gifts or writing poems, making time for your new partner whenever he or she calls, never mind what else is going on in your life. Total focus is on the other person: mind, body, energy. That other person starts to pull away; you feel and act like a victim; finally, he or she leaves you. You have stopped being the person you were. All of your emotional, physical, and mental energy is devoted to your love interest. Your happiness becomes dependent on his or her presence.

If you are a love avoider, you are attracted to the neediness and vulnerability of the love addict — it gives you a high to feel that wanted, that needed, and that loved...for a short time. Eventually you feel engulfed, smothered, invaded by the neediness of the other person, and you run. Often not very nicely! But then you repeat the process over again — and again. Sometimes even with the same person. And you end up feeling guilt. And that's not good! Release the guilt and start fresh, learning and understanding your true needs for boundaries, appreciation, respect, and caring.
