Welcome
|
I was personally reminded recently about the importance of integrity in relationships whether talking about business relationships, personal relationships, or the relationship we have with ourselves. Each one of these relationships carries an emotional bank account, and it is worth checking every so often whether the account is healthy or in debit.
|
 |
As we move into the introspective season of the year, we need to ask ourselves, "How might I make life richer, more loving, and more worthwhile for the person I'm interacting with?"
If we don't do this on a regular basis, particularly for ourselves and those we love, the emotional bank account goes into overdraft, the space between becomes barren and distant, and we live from our heads, not our hearts.
Dunno about you, but that's not the way I choose to live or love. Let me know what you think.
Namaste,
Georgina
P.S. On October 8 at 9 p.m., I'm hosting the Shirley MacLaine Chat Room, which will have a Thanksgiving focus.

Food Definitions for the 21st Century |
| by Brit Elders |
|
| |
|
 |
In the 21st century, we're finding ourselves having to alter our identification of foods and expanding our vocabulary to incorporate terms that may seem un-foodlike. The meanings of these new terms and the undercurrent emotions they elicit are dependent on which side of the fence you are on regarding the serious topic of genetic engineering.
|
|
GMO. GMO stands for genetically modified organism a plant or animal that has been genetically engineered. Many industries support the development and use of GMOs, while many consumers and organizations question their safety and have called for adequate and independent testing of GMO products.
Transgenic. Sounds fancy, huh? Often, the label "GMO" and the term "transgenic" are used to refer to organisms that have acquired novel genes from other organisms by laboratory "gene transfer" methods...at least according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It's an organism that has a foreign gene (a transgene) incorporated into its genome. In other words, it has something in it that Nature didn't put there.
GM. It no longer stands just for the car company. It now refers to all human-designed changes in a plant or animal, whether done through traditional breeding or genetic engineering. "Genetically modified" and "genetically engineered" are sometimes used interchangeably.
GE. This GE you won't see on a TV set. "GE" is often interchangeable with the labels above. So when you hear about GM, GMO, or transgenic food, you need to know that it is produced using the genetic engineering process.
Monsanto. Monsanto Company is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the world's leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, marketed as its flagship product, Roundup. Monsanto is also by far the leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed, holding 70% of the market share. Agracetus, owned by Monsanto, produces the Roundup Ready soybean seed for the commercial market.
Roundup Ready Seeds. These are seeds that have been genetically altered. Their DNA comprises one of the world's most deadly and popular herbicides. Roundup Ready Seeds were engineered so that farmers could spray their fields with Monsanto's Roundup and the plant would survive while the weeds died. There are only a few tiny problems with this.... When the plant grows up, every cell contains Roundup. And in order to get the Roundup into the plant, the wall of the cell had to be broken and a carrier used so that the cell would not reject the Roundup. Guess what they use as the carrier? Bacteria such as e-coli are the carriers. And they top that off with a healthy dose of antibiotics.
And that goes on to dinner tables...?

| This Storm Will Pass |
| by Carrie Hart |
|
|
|
 |
Do you remember a storm that seemed it would never end, a night of darkness so deep and impenetrable that you wondered how you could possibly survive to see another day? Do you remember times when you felt alone and bereft, no one to turn to, and your faith seemed out of reach?
|
And yet the storm passed. It ended. And yet the dawn came up over the mountains and the darkness gave way to a sky of shimmering pink, then blue, and faith was restored as the roses lifted their lovely heads to the sun.
The sun always shines, even when it appears dark. The storm always ends, even when it appears endless. And the rains from the sky are blessings to the ground below. The very storm that frightened you sustains love in the great stretch and reach of time.
Everything moves and changes, yet this remains true: love is. And this moment is made of love, love held within a deep unending pool of peace. It is at the centre and it holds.
So in the bitterest storm, go to your centre for warmth and love and peace. Feel there, deep within, the comfort of your heart. And from there, call to a ring of angels to surround you and bless you with their song.
You are deeply loved, ever and always. Call and they will come. And then just let the time and the storm pass and the sun will surely shine anew as the day dawns in the bright sunshine of love.

COOLING THE FLASH: A PUBLIC WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN WHO ARE DEALING WITH SYMPTOMS OF MENOPAUSE
Have you ever removed layers of clothes, opened windows, and fanned yourself in response to a hot flash?
Perhaps you have been woken from a deep sleep to throw off the covers only to find that you also needed to change drenched nightclothes and soggy bedsheets?
If so, you are not alone. In 2005, four million Canadian women had reached menopause. Of all the symptoms of menopause (which include insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and weight gain), hot flashes can have the most dramatic effect on our lives.
Pharmaceutical medications can be helpful, but not every woman is able to use them, and drugs can carry potential risks. Isn't there a completely safe and effective way to manage menopause?
Yes, there is hypnosis.
The Ontario Hypnosis Centre introduces an exciting and effective program: Cooling the Flash. In a dynamic group format, you will receive
- training in self-hypnosis (a powerful tool for life);
- four hypnosis sessions guided by an experienced Board-certified hypnotherapist with years of expertise in women's issues;
- a hypnosis recording on CD, suitable for daily use; and
- a workbook with scripts, helpful coping strategies, and a diary to record your progress.
Dates: October 10, 17, 27, and November 21, 7:00 9:30 p.m.
Fee: $300.00 + GST
Location: Downtown Toronto
Call (416) 489-0333 / toll-free (866) 497-7469 to register.

A Message for You
If you just look at all that already exists in your life, all that you already have unlimited air to breathe, ample lighting to see, music to hear, books to read, stars to dream by, trees to gaze at, floors to dance on, friends to cavort with, enemies to befriend, strangers to meet, woods to walk through, beaches to comb, rocks to scale, rains to cleanse you, rivers to float you, animals to comfort you you do have to admit, there's more of it than you could ever, ever, ever spend.
But try anyway.
