Volume 3, Issue 5

Welcome

Do you know your song? By that I mean do you have a song that resonates for you, that explains who you are and how you see your world? Mine is "Make Your Own Kind of Music" by the Mamas and the Papas. (Am I dating myself here?)

It's an interesting way of getting to know people — by asking them for their song. Sometimes you'll get an instant reply; other times it will trigger silent introspection and a follow-up call late at night with the answer — "I've got it!"

So...what is your song? Celebrate your music by telling us about it, and you could win a CD of your choice!

Listen to the birds sing their spring song, and be inspired.

Namaste,
Georgina
Speak Your Way to Success
by Dr. Georgina Cannon
Every day in the clinic, I witness the power of words. The words we say to ourselves — and the words others said to us when we were young — form and shape the people we are and how we interact with our world.

This is good news...and bad news.

Thousands of years ago, the Buddha said, "Everything we are arises with our thoughts." And we know that our thoughts manifest our words and our behaviours. As adults, we are responsible for our thoughts, our words, and our behaviours. That means there's no one else to blame if we have low self-esteem, if we procrastinate, if we are "pushovers," or if we are overly aggressive.

Since we can change a word or a thought instantly, and we can do it anytime we want, it is within our ability to change what we think, what we say, and how we behave.

Often, the thoughts we think, the words we say, and the behaviours we manifest happen seemingly automatically. But negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are simply the manifestation of thoughts and situations we have grown up with or, rather, aged with, and occur without consideration of cause and effect.

At the Ontario Hypnosis Centre School and Clinic, we work every day to change habits, the blueprint of behaviour, by accessing the subconscious mind. Although the process is faster with a qualified clinical hypnotherapist, with persistence and focus, individuals can make these changes themselves.

First, you must learn to recognize your thoughts. They come into your mind without your doing anything at all, much as your heart beats without your having to remind it every second. You don't have direct control over what thoughts pop into your mind, but you always have complete control over what thoughts you consciously insert into your thought stream.

You need to decide which thoughts you want to eliminate, and what you want to replace them with. For example, if you find yourself speechless in meetings at work, plan ahead, considering what you might contribute for your department. Your mind may shout out things like "I'm afraid of speaking in public" or "People won't want to hear what I have to say." It's time to change the script: Change the thought, which will change the words, which will in turn change your behaviour.

Every time one of the old negative thoughts pushes its way in, learn to consciously plug in a prearranged positive thought — "I can add value to this meeting." Although the negative thoughts might continue to pop up from time to time, with this simple strategy, you've made a fundamental alteration in the program that's been running your life.

It takes 21 days to change a habit, but to make sure your subconscious mind "gets it," commit yourself to a 30-day trial run of identifying unhealthy thoughts and determining how to turn them into productive ones.

With practice, positive thinking will become second nature, and you will find that your ability to write a new script for your life will empower you, enrich your life and relationships, and increase your happiness.

COOLING THE FLASH: A PUBLIC WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN WHO ARE DEALING WITH SYMPTOMS OF MENOPAUSE

Have you ever removed layers of clothes, opened windows, and fanned yourself in response to a hot flash?

Perhaps you have been woken from a deep sleep to throw off the covers only to find that you also needed to change drenched nightclothes and soggy bedsheets?

If so, you are not alone. In 2005, four million Canadian women had reached menopause. Of all the symptoms of menopause (which include insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and weight gain), hot flashes can have the most dramatic effect on our lives.

Pharmaceutical medications can be helpful, but not every woman is able to use them, and drugs can carry potential risks. Isn't there a completely safe and effective way to manage menopause?

Yes, there is — hypnosis.

The Ontario Hypnosis Centre introduces an exciting and effective program: Cooling the Flash. In a dynamic group format, you will receive

  • training in self-hypnosis (a powerful tool for life);
  • four hypnosis sessions guided by an experienced Board-certified hypnotherapist with years of expertise in women's issues;
  • a hypnosis recording on CD, suitable for daily use; and
  • a workbook with scripts, helpful coping strategies, and a diary to record your progress.
Dates: June 13, 20, 27, and July 25, 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.
Location: Downtown Toronto
Fee: $300.00 + GST

Register online or call (416) 489-0333 / toll-free (866) 497-7469.

The Intention Experiment

Are you looking for a way to help change the world? Be a part of the Intention Experiment, the world's largest mind-over-matter experiment in history, which will examine the ability of thoughts to affect — and change — our world.

Designed by author Lynne McTaggart and her husband, Bryan Hubbard, and aided by the most eminent scientists in consciousness research, the Intention Experiment is a global laboratory testing an outrageous premise: that human thoughts and intentions are an actual physical "something" with the astonishing power to change our world.

A sizable body of scientific research has shown that directed thoughts are capable of affecting everything from the simplest machines to the most complex living beings. The Intention Experiment is going to test whether this effect gets stronger when more people think the same thought at the same time.

This is not about sending intentions to make a million dollars. The targets are philanthropic: healing wounds, helping children with attention deficit disorders or patients with Alzheimer's, counteracting pollution and global warming.

A pilot experiment proved successful when 16 meditators based in London directed their thoughts to four targets in Dr. Fritz-Albert Popp's laboratory in the International Institute of Biophysics in Neuss, Germany. The meditators were asked to attempt to lower certain measurable biodynamic processes of two types of algae, a plant, and a human volunteer. Popp and his team discovered significant changes in all four targets while the intentions were being sent, but there were no changes while meditators were "resting."

McTaggart and Dr. Gary Schwartz, psychologist and director of the Center for Frontier Medicine in Biofield Science at the University of Arizona, are now preparing one of the first Intention Experiment targets: an enclosed "mini-Gaia" with an artificially raised temperature. The plan is to ask the participants to attempt to lower it at a particular moment through focused "intention."

There are no guarantees that the big experiments will work. But what's most important in frontier science is just being willing to ask what seems like an outrageous question.

All of the experiments will be funded by the proceeds of McTaggart's book The Intention Experiment and grants.

The Intention Experiment will ultimately involve tens of thousands of participants from all over the world. For more information, please visit www.theintentionexperiment.com.

Lynne McTaggart is the award-winning author of five books, including The Field and The Intention Experiment, and an internationally recognized spokesperson on the science of spirituality. She is also co-executive director of Conatus, which publishes some of most well-respected health and spiritual newsletters and online information. The Field has now been published in 15 languages.
