Now at OHC, we are using the modern-day versions of these media to continue our commitment to education and understanding of the power of the mind. We hope that what we've got in store will keep you glued to your MP3 player or computer!
Next month we start our free podcasting — short learnings and discussions to intrigue and inspire you. Sometimes we'll be interviewing others; other times it'll be my responding to your questions or explaining a new way of solving a life issue. Also, starting January 1, we're launching our online school, the Academy of the Mind, to make our courses available worldwide. These classes will be not only for professional hypnotists but also for others who want to learn and improve their life.
Some of our clients, and many of our students, come from around the world, so we know that the demand to know more about the mind/body connection is keen from Denmark to Dubai, from Bombay to British Columbia. Ultimately, nothing beats in-class, hands-on training, but the way we are producing programs through the Academy will, we hope, be a very good second best.
So whether you're listening or watching, we'll be communicating with you in a new and exciting way — let us know what you think!

NGH TRAIN THE TRAINER CLASSES
FIRST TIME AVAILABLE IN CANADA!
Georgina Cannon, Director of Ontario Hypnosis Centre School and Clinic, has been teaching hypnosis for more than 10 years and, before that, facilitating corporate groups worldwide for longer than she cares to admit! Awarded the coveted CMI designation by the National Guild of Hypnotists, Georgina will be offering Train the Trainer classes in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and B.C.
If you qualify to take this course, you will be taught what you need to know to teach the 100-hour National Guild of Hypnotists' certification class. By the end of this five-day course, you will fully understand the NGH course core curriculum so that you can teach and inspire your students.

The Certainty of Purrfection |

Yes, I know it's a cheesy title, but how else could I talk about cats' certainty that they are lovable and perfect? And they're not alone. Cared-for dogs have that look and presence also — they can't imagine your not wanting to be with them…night and day. In your face. Under your hands. And feet. And, of course, on the bed.

Charlie — the black-and-white Jellicle male cat in the household — teaches us each and every day the value of good, strong self-esteem. But like all good teachers, once he sees I've learned that lesson, he moves on to the next. It's a humbling business trying to keep up with the daily teachings of a not-so-dumb animal.
The first lesson of the week, Monday morning at 6:30 and repeated at various times during the day, was "Attention must be paid." It took the paw pounding on my ribcage at 6:30, the balancing act on the bathroom sink at 8 a.m., and the "I am so much more important" walkabout in front of the computer screen at 11 a.m. for it to sink in.
The lesson of the day? Attention must be paid.
Every day, I have to decide what is important in life — at that moment, and each and every moment after that — and use that information to enrich my life. The attitude I take to the morning is totally my decision: The weather, the chores, the news have no reason to set the tone for my day. How I see my day is my business...and attention must be paid so that power isn't given over to the weather, the chores, or the news!
At the computer, I can make decisions about my body — how and how long I sit to keep my body pain free. I can make decisions about the information I share — some of it or all of it.
In the kitchen, Charlie doesn't have to worry. His food is pre-balanced for optimum health — it says. But when he needs salad or oil, he lets me know. He knows and understands what his body needs. Ha! Attention must be paid. Another lesson — tune into my body before I eat.
As I plan the series of podcasts we'll be launching soon so that the learnings we share can be heard, as well as read, I'll remember Charlie's first lesson. And when there's more to learn from Charlie, you'll hear about it…because attention must be paid.
Georgina is the director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre School and Clinic and learns and shares wherever and whenever she can. Podcasts will start the first week of November and will include interviews with intriguing guests as well as Georgina's own teachings and a few of her learnings from Charlie.

The membership entitles you to the use of a lending library, regular helpful publications, two very smart certificates for framing, a pendulum (of course!), DVDs, and ongoing mentoring.

| Food Definitions for the 21st Century (Part II) |

Last month, we introduced you to some of the more frightening terminology that today's food manufacturers and distributors use. This month, we continue our exploration into genetically modified (GM) foods. (If you missed last month's article, click here to access it.)

BT corn. A corn plant that has been developed though biotechnology so that the plant tissues express a protein derived from a bacterium, Bacillus thuringiensis, which is toxic to some insects but apparently non-toxic to humans and other mammals. But how would they know? It hasn't been tested! A recent study from Cornell University in New York recently published in the science journal Nature suggests that pollen from BT corn may have toxic effects on larvae of the monarch butterfly. The caterpillar, or larval stage of this insect, feeds on milkweed. This and other GM foods are being carefully considered as the source for the demise of the honeybee. Studies are under way; no doubt the big pharmaceutical corporations that produce the GMOs will conduct much of the "fact-based research."
Irradiated food. Several types of radiant energy are used to sterilize foods. Gamma irradiation is commonly used to sterilize laboratory animal feeds. The amount of irradiating energy is controlled to kill all microorganisms without affecting the quality of the food. Fresh or processed foods are treated with ionizing radiation that inactivates biological contaminants (insects, moulds, parasites, or bacteria), rendering foods safe to consume and extending their storage lifetime. Or so they say. Personally, I don't want people irradiating my food with any form of energy other than nature's.
The big problem in all of this is that you don't have a choice of what you consume or even the knowledge of what product comes from a genetically altered crop because there are no laws requiring labels on GMOs. The U.S. Congress won't step up to the plate and demand that consumers are told what they're consuming. The FDA, EPA, USDA, and even the Justice Department are so infiltrated with former Monsanto (an agricultural biotechnology corporation) employees that there should be a revolving door between these organizations. Bio-agriculture is horrid under this administration, but it didn't start there. It goes back to Reagan and was floated by Bush/Quayle and then by President Clinton, who spoke at the bio conference last year and said, "The biotech industry has a job to do." Well, President Clinton, they are doing it...on us.
In his and others' views, biotechnology is critical to the survival of the planet. That's propaganda in its finest form, especially now with the world thinking green and eco-friendly. We are being used as laboratory rats. When one examines the potential consequences to the health of the planet and the health of mankind, it becomes clear that GMOs should be banned from distribution until they have been independently tested and shown to be safe. In fact, scientists at the FDA strongly recommended that these studies be conducted before the altered foods were shipped around the world. That hasn't happened.
The only way to make certain you aren't a lab rat and potentially damaging your health and the environment is to eat organic foods. Nature spent eons perfecting our food and keeping it safe from cross-contamination. Fish DNA didn't naturally find its way into a tomato and human DNA didn't naturally occur in rice, but they're there now.
So what is missing in this high-tech, 21st-century food chain? How about a little tiny word with a great big meaning? God. I can't help but wonder if this isn't the same thing that happened in Atlantis when the scientists decided they were smarter than God. We humans sure don't learn our lessons well and seem to have a propensity to revisit them again and again.
As the old saying goes, "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature."
