Volume 1, Issue 8

Welcome!

Have you ever noticed that when you share experience there's a bond? As a teacher over the past 8 years in the hypnotherapy profession, and before that in the corporate world, I have trained thousands of people. And when you teach, if you love what you do, you share everything you know...and then some! So how could you not bond?

I have just returned from teaching at the National Guild of Hypnotist's phenomenal convention. Over 1,600 people from around the world taking workshops from 8 a.m. to sometimes 10 p.m. at night for three straight days.

My class, the group who took the Past Life Regression course, was--and I have no doubt about it--the warmest, smartest and most fun group in the whole convention. Questions, giggles, demonstrations, practice, some drama, more questions, belly laughs, powerful insights and aha's. Two full days of reaching out to each other, back into the past and out into the future, making plans about what's next. What a blast!

Improving Your Study Habits with Mind Power
by Dr. Georgina Cannon

Research has proven that the ability to focus--even for short periods of time--is essential for learning. The average attention span for one task is around 20 minutes, but to retain information the focus for that 20 minutes must be absolute.

Here are some ways to reach for the "A" grade and still have a life.

1) Memory is trainable.
Start training your memory to retain information for longer periods and to become more aware by using a combination of self-hypnosis and memory games (What was the person who just passed you on the street wearing? How many people were standing in the cashier line at the last store you went to? What did the cashier's name tag say?)

2) Memory is triggered by context.
Study in a physical place that is set up similarly to where your exam will take place. In other words, study at a desk with a chair, not laying on the bed, in the garden or sprawled out on the floor!

If your body is in a consistent position for studying, it will increase your chances for recall. The body works best when consistent familiarity becomes the norm. For instance, with sports or dance, repeating the same thing consistently in the same place confirms the action. We call this muscle memory, when in fact it is the muscles responding automatically to the mind memory.

3) Memory depends on your mental state.
When studying, you need to keep the same focus and enhanced attention you have when taking a test. The way to ensure that happens is to set up the mental state ahead of time through hypnosis training, so that you go into a slightly altered state both when studying and when taking the tests. Hypnosis enables deeper concentration and activation levels and improves your ability for recall.

4) Memory needs manageable amounts of information.
Study for regular periods of time such as 20 or 30 minutes, then take a 10-minute break. Then study for another 20 or 30 minutes followed by another 10-minute break. If you can't concentrate or remember what you've just read, then stop, take a break and study some more. The brain retains more when we learn in small manageable amounts. Even if you are enjoying the reading material, force yourself to take a break.

Understand the power of your subconscious mind to retain information and use it! Learn how to go into an altered state to maximize your study habits and become efficient and effective with your study time.

Understanding Our Lives with Astrology
by Robert Petrungaro

Astrology is the esoteric science that allows us to better understand ourselves through the placement of the planets at our birth. Using exact birth information including your month, day, year, time and location of your birth, an astrologer will be able to better understand your life purpose. How does this work?
Every planet has within it a specific meaning and characteristic. In studying where the planets were in the heavens when you were born, an astrologer can interpret your birth chart to reveal to you what the purpose of your life/incarnation is all about.

We all wonder what the purpose of our lives is: Why was I born? What am I supposed to be doing with my life? Which direction is best suited for me to best use my talents and abilities? An astrologer can help you gain clarity here.

Astrology can help us to understand our strengths, weaknesses, ability to handle money, career direction, and our karma. This helps us to establish what our lessons are and how best to approach our choices in life to live more fuller, prosperous lives.

In addition, astrology can also help us to chart our year by using a forecast chart. In doing so, we can better time certain situations in our lives and make the most empowered, prosperous future choices.

Robert Petrungaro is an accomplished reader in tarot, astrology and numerology. He is also a Reiki Master and reader in clairvoyance, palms, dowsing, auras and tea leaves. He has appeared on numerous radio shows as well as CityTV's Breakfast Television. He writes a monthly column on various spiritual topics and answers daily questions.
