Volume 1, Issue 2

Welcome!

Spring is a wonderful time of renewal. Like the trees, many of us lie dormant in Winter. We retreat with the darkness of mornings and early evenings only to come to life again in the Spring, just as the leaves and blossoms are reborn.

For some, the New Year is their time of resolutions and new beginnings; for others, it is Spring that represents growth and exploration.

Whichever you choose -- New Year or Spring -- know that like the trees, when the time is appropriate for you, growth happens, and your world can become lush and beautiful.

Namaste,
Georgina
Creating Abundance In Your Life
by Dr. Georgina Cannon

In my house is a small Buddha statue. This Buddha wears a beatific grin that creases his round face and crinkles his eyes. Above his full, curved tummy, his arms are joyously stretched to the sky with the palms up. You can almost hear his enthusiastic "yes!" that affirms the happiness captured forever in his little pose.

To me, this statue is a reminder of true abundance: a full belly, love in you heart, and a joy that's reflected in every inch of your being.

What Does Abundance Mean to You?
Your definition of abundance will not be exactly the same as mine or anyone else's. For you, it might mean time spent with family, or it might include solitary meditation. Perhaps hiking in the mountains creates abundance for you, or maybe it lies in your preparation of a delicious meal.

There are no right and wrong answers. However, if you want to attract abundance into your life, you first need to decide what it means to you. After all, how can you create something if you don't even know what it looks like and therefore wouldn't recognize if it came to you?

Many people mistakenly believe that abundance equals material wealth and that to pursue it is petty. But pursuing true abundance is actually a profoundly spiritual journey.

True abundance brings a profusion of experiences such as joy, love, laughter, and health. Material wealth can certainly be part of an abundant life but it's not the whole picture, nor even the most important part.

Take some time now to create your definition of abundance so that you may begin to create the abundance itself.

Finding Your Abundance
We live in an infinitely abundant universe. There are no limits on what you can create or enjoy, only the false limits you place on yourself.

Do you get up in the morning and hope there's enough air to breathe? Do you worry that by taking a breath you are stealing it from someone else who then won't have it?

Of course not.

It doesn't even consciously cross your mind. You just know and trust that air is all around you, and that there's more than enough for you and everyone else here.

Everything in the universe is like air. There's always more than enough. More than enough love, happiness, laughter, health and yes, even money. Know it, trust it, and you are on your way to enjoying abundance.

Accessing the limitless abundance of the universe is your birth right as a human being. To begin your journey to true abundance, ask yourself these important questions and document the answers:

  1. What are my life values? What do I value in the world around me, in my friends, in those I admire? Is it integrity, love, laughter, fitness, the outdoors? It is different for everyone.
  2. How do my values inspire my focus on abundance?
  3. What does abundance mean to me in terms of mind, body and spirit?
  4. What does that look like, feel like, sound like?
  5. How will it change my life? How will I change my life?
Barriers to Abundance
Now, look at what might be keeping you from creating the abundance you've identified. Do you recognize any of these signs?
  • Not understanding that abundance exists all around you and can be yours
  • Lack of self-worth, feeling undeserving
  • Fear of change
  • Environmental stress such as an overflowing schedule that runs you ragged
Solving the Barriers
What can you do to get you beyond these barriers?
  • For your mind?
  • For your body?
  • For your spirit?
Match these answers to the definitions you wrote previously and you're on your way!

Birth Just Got Better!
by Shawn Gallagher

Imagine looking forward to your baby's birth, feeling confident and relaxed.

Imagine coping well and relaxing deeper than you ever thought possible.

Imagine being born in an atmosphere of calm and peace.

Can it be done? Of course it can!

More and more women these days are turning to hypnosis for an easier, calmer and more comfortable birth. Whether planning a hospital or home birth, a medicated or natural birth, hypnosis offers a wealth of possibilities to make a baby's birth more memorable and pleasant.

Deep breathing to aid distraction is the most common pain relief technique taught in prenatal classes. This is a wonderful tool for the milder and early parts of the birth.

When labour gets strong, however, more is needed. Of the dozen or more comfort techniques available through hypnosis, encouraging the body to create more of its own natural anaesthetic (endorphins) with the image of an endorphin tap can be very successful.

Lynne*, a Registered Nurse, said that two things helped during her child's first birth when she used the Hypnosis for Childbirth techniques. First she told herself that each contraction was doing its job effectively (i.e. softening, thinning, opening and keeping the baby in a good position). She also imagined opening an endorphin tap at the start of each contraction while at the same time taking herself deeper into trance.

She started labour Thursday night and was coping so well that her husband went to work on Friday. By the afternoon, things were picking up and he left work a little early, came home and helped her to the hospital. The baby was safely born just after dinnertime. Her natural birth was so manageable that she elected to use hypnosis again when she was expecting her second child.

The next time discomfort occurs, close your eyes and encourage your body to relax. You might even want to imagine being in your special place. Then think of a tap that has the ability to turn on more endorphin production in your body -- a bit like having your own pharmacy inside of you. You can make the tap and the endorphins as specific as you like -- the colour, the flow, imagining how natural anaesthetic creates numbing in various parts of the body. Be creative and open to a world of possibilities inside of yourself!
