Volume 1, Issue 11

Welcome

Wishing you a joyful, healthy year ahead, full of smiles and sunshine.

World Hypnotism Day is January 4th. This is the day (or in some cases, the week) where hypnotists around the world talk about the art and science of hypnosis through a special event or the media.

The OHC is holding the world's largest relaxation session at Toronto's prestigious The Sutton Place Hotel (see the announcement after my feature article page). The hotel has arranged a prix-fixe dinner for participants. When you book, just say you're attending this event. You ARE coming, aren't you? Please phone or e-mail us to confirm -- and bring friends -- but we do need you to register ahead of time because we have to watch numbers.

It's going to be fun, with some high-profile people and media attending. See you there!

Namaste,
Georgina

P.S. If you're from out of town, there's also a special room rate should you want to stay at the hotel. Check with The Sutton Place directly and mention the Jan 4th World Hypnotism Day event.
The Spirit of Giving
by Dr. Georgina Cannon

The holiday season is fast approaching and unless you're one of those last minute types, you're probably in the thick of gift shopping. Now is the perfect time to think about the spirit of giving and what it really means.

In North America, most of us have all the stuff we could possibly need and a lot more besides. Do the people on your list really need another thingamabob or whatchamacallit? This year, consider giving gifts that truly give.

Here are some ideas:

Donate to a charity in someone's name. When we have so much, it's important to think about those who could use a little help. Choose a cause that's near and dear to the heart of the person to be named as the donor. He or she will appreciate the gesture.

Give back to the earth. Instead of thinking about what you can give one person, think about what you can give to humankind and the planet at the same time. You might plant a tree, sponsor a park trail, protect an acre of rainforest or adopt a polar bear in your recipient's name.

Give the gift of health. A gift that can help someone improve or maintain optimum health, whether physical or spiritual, is truly precious. Consider a hypnotherapy session, a CD, herbs, massage -- the options are limitless.

Give the gift of yourself. Be a buddy to someone who needs it. Read to your grandmother, commit to taking your uncle grocery shopping once a week, give homemade gift certificates for walks or time spent together on a favourite activity. Behind these gifts are two things that can't ever be bought -- your time and your love.

Make a gift. Often the most appreciated gifts are simple ones that show you put thought and care into creating them. Bake a batch of cookies, make some homemade jam, compile a scrapbook, knit a scarf, whittle a little statue -- we all have special talents. Think about what you can do with your talent to bring a smile to the heart of someone you care about.

This year, take the season beyond the material realm to shed some light and love on the world. You'll be giving the greatest of gifts.

On January 4, 2006, the Ontario Hypnosis Centre will stage the largest relaxation day ever in order to draw attention to the growing field of hypnotism. The event takes place at the prestigious The Sutton Place Hotel in their Royal Sutton Ballroom from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The timing is specifically designed so that participants may start their relaxing evening at the hotel's Accents Restaurant, where special arrangements have been made for a reasonably priced prix-fixe dinner. Helping After the Hurricane
by Jo-Anne Eadie

I returned home late last Monday night from down in Mobile, Alabama, having fulfilled all the expectations that I had for working for hurricane relief.

I provided EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to the two main volunteers who run SOS (Saving Our Selves), who have not taken a day off since Hurricane Katrina hit.
Their phones never stop ringing and people are at them all the time looking for direction. After just a few rounds of EFT, they felt really relaxed; for the rest of their day, they reported that they got so much more done.

I also worked with a volunteer who is the head of the warehouse for feeling overwhelmed, and another volunteer in the warehouse who had had a headache for two weeks straight......now it is gone.

I went out on a scouting run and with the help of my angels, found a small community that had been serviced briefly by Red Cross and then abandoned. A scouting run is where a truck is loaded with supplies and the purpose is to find pockets of people that have not been serviced adequately or that have fallen through the cracks. As we were unloading supplies in this little rural community, a woman said to me that she had asked God to send me. I replied that I had been asking my angels all day where she was. I introduced myself as Jo-Anne, and she replied that her name was Joanne too. We hugged and rocked and laughed and cried. Joanne will now set up her church as a distribution centre for the area and they will get what they need.

In my short time in Alabama and Mississippi, I have had many hugs and wishes of "God bless you"...and have returned them all. I was blessed all week long.

I EFT tapped with women my age and older whose children and families had moved in with them because they had lost their homes. There was a lot of extra work and meals and laundry and noise and they longed for the peace and quiet they used to have, and then felt guilty because they loved their families.

I tapped with people who felt the loss of the beauty of the land. They were reminded every time they walked down the road.

I had a session with a whole family, a mother and three children. The mother was still living in her home, which was unsafe. The kitchen was caving in and she was afraid it could come down at any time. Her 16-year-old son had so many losses. His bedroom and all his belongings were completely gone from the house. He had to change high schools and got sent to a different one than his friends; he was having difficulty fitting in at the new school. His girlfriend had moved away to Atlanta to live with relatives.

I couldn't reach the nine-year-old girl. She had such sadness in her eyes and she just walked away. The little seven-year-old was the one I spent the most time with as he was terrified another hurricane would come.

After each round of EFT, I would test him with the same statement: "What if you go home tonight and the news reports that another hurricane is coming?" His whole body would begin to shake and we would go right back to work. He trusted me and worked as hard as any client I have ever had. Finally, after about 45 minutes, his body didn't shake, his eyes didn't reflect the fear and his answer was, "Miss Jo-Anne, I'm not thinking about that anymore." I will remember his smile and his hugs forever.

God works through me, the work is not done by me. This was so evident in Alabama where the people are like alarm clocks that have been wound too tight. Once they let go, it is very fast. They seemed to learn EFT so quickly too. We never had to spend much time on the mechanics. God walked right by my side during my time down there. The feeling is something that cannot be explained, only experienced.

Please don't hold back if you want to help. Veterans for Peace and SOS are two organizations that are truly talking the talk and walking the walk, 24-7. You'll find Veterans for Peace at http://www.veteransforpeace.org and SOS at http://www.sosafterkatrina.org.

If you haven't donated yet because you are fearful the money will be wasted or not get to the people who need it, you can contact Veterans for Peace or SOS. There are lists on their web sites of things they need. Send a Wal-Mart, Home Depot or Lowes card and your shipping costs are next to nothing.

WORKSHOP:
Hypnosis for Sports

Great athletes like Tiger Woods use hypnosis to stay at the top of their game. All athletes, whether amateur or pro, make excellent clients because they are motivated and serious about getting results. Golf alone is a huge market, both corporately and personally -- these are people who are fanatical about getting the "edge" so that they beat their competitors! Now you can help them get there.
